Have you heard about Agri-tourism? What does this term mean? First let me tell you it’s not about Aggravated Tourists, not when coming to the beautiful Smoky Mountains with so much to see and do. Agri-Tourism is when tourists visit a farm and take part in farm activities such as crop harvesting, animal care and other farm chores. We are blessed to have such an establishment right here just outside the city limits of Gatlinburg, TN.
When you have booked your chalet in the Smokys and have that all taken care of, the next thing you start thinking about is how to spend your time while in the mountains. Families come to this area because they are looking for activities that involve the whole family. Vacation time means getting away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives; getting back to the simpler, slower pace of bygone days.
What could fit this agenda more than a trip to a local farm? Mountain Mist Farms is a locally owned farm, like our business they have been family owned for over 40 years! The farm has grown over the years to include crops such as blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, muscadines, grapes, apples, cherries, local honey and wine.
They operate on a U-Pick or picked for you basis. Children love to go to the farm and participate in harvesting the crops. They learn where there food comes from and all the work that is involved in getting from the field to the table. Grandparents love teaching their young ones how it was when they were children and participated on a family farm.
Mountain Mist Farms also has a beautiful pole barn that serves as an event space for wedding receptions, family reunions and business events. There is also a dedicated wedding ceremony site overlooking the vineyards and the beauty of the mountains.
Plan your visit to see us at Mountain Laurel Chalets and reserve a little time for a visit to Mountain Mist Farms and if you make a Blackberry Cobbler – save us a bite!
