Hiking is not the only way to explore the beauty of the mountains. Many people opt to have a little assistance covering the trails. Man has long relied on horses to carry them from one place to another and here in the Smokies that is no exception.
Numerous facilities exist that afford the opportunity to ride through the National Park without being on foot. The surefooted horse can take you easier and further than you might be able to go using your own two feet. Here is a list of the most popular rentals facilities:
Sugarlands Riding Stables located inside the National Park about 1 mile from the Gatlinburg entrance.

There is also a Wagon ride available for $10 per person
Keep in mind that each facility has different rules and riders need to ride by themselves and be able to control a 1000 lb. animal. Therefore, there is an age limit also. Young riders will be required to wear a helmet at all locations. These are all guided rides and are gentle walks at a leisurely pace.
It is advised that you wear comfortable clothing with long pants and sleeves due to the terrain where you will be traveling. You will not be allowed to take purses, backpacks, etc. Please be sure to call ahead and find out hours of operation for the facility you want to use. None of these are open in the winter months.
