The Gatlinburg Farmer’s Market is opening back up for business in mid-May. The market will be located next door to Gatlinburg City Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Customers will find a variety of products from local vendors including a variety of freshly grown produce, homemade crafts and freshly baked goods. In addition to fresh, quality products, the Gatlinburg Farmers Market will also host every second Saturday that will feature the best of natural and cultural resources of the Smokies.
The farmers market is a great opportunity to become more involved within the community. When you buy from the farmers market you’re supporting local farmers and businesses and getting quality products. There are countless reasons to support your local farmers market, but here are just on why you should check out the Gatlinburg Farmers Market:
Quality products
Everything you find at the farmers market is top quality. The produce is fresh and have all been grown naturally which gives your product a cleaner and fresher taste. The fruits and vegetables you get at the grocery store are often several days old before they reach the shelves and have been showered in chemicals and pesticides. The products you get at the market are often picked that very morning and the fresher they are, the better they taste! This also applies to baked goods and artisan foods. These tasty treats are freshly baked – not processed – with quality ingredients and a dash of love.
Brings the community together
One of the great things about the farmers market is that you have the opportunity to talk with individuals within your community. How cool is it that you get to meet the person who grew your food!? It’s also a great place to gather with friends and families and talk with other like-minded, health-conscious individuals in your community. Kids will also enjoy learning about where our food comes from, how it’s made and all of the special events and activities that go on throughout the day.
Supports local farmers and businesses
Small family farms have a hard time competing with the large agribusiness that dominates our food production. When you purchase directly from farmers you’re giving them a better return for their product. Farmers and local business owners need your financial support, so show them some love!
Environmentally friendly
Not only are you making your bodies and local farmers happy but you’re also helping out our Earth! Supermarkets receive their produce from hundreds or thousands of miles away. The cost of shipping and the amount of fossil fuels that is being used to get these products from point A to B is quite significant. Eating food that’s grown locally cuts down on money, energy, and resources that is otherwise wasted. By cutting down on these costs, you’re doing your part to help the environment.
If you’re looking to become a part of the community make sure to spend your Saturdays at the Gatlinburg Farmers Market. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a visitor or a local; as long as you enjoy fresh quality products, we’ll see you at the farmers market!
