Tami Holloman suffers from ALS and wanted to see the mountains one more time. She visited us just a year ago in March of 2019 and had no signs of ALS but 2020 has been a challenging year for her with an unexpected diagnosis of ALS. So her husband, Shad, called Mountain Laurel Chalets to find the perfect chalet with a mountain view that could accomodate Tami with her wheel chair.
Trillium Lodge was the perfect option and hospice arrived to set Tami up for a comfortable week. Shad, 15-year old son Christopher, father-in-law Richard and special family friend, Kim Young were all able to join Tami and take in all the beauty that the Smoky Mountains offers.
It was enough for Tami to sit in the patio and enjoy the view and she was able to capture some fantastic photos which will always remind her and her family of God's care for her and her family in this challenging time with ALS.
Tami was able to even visit the Gatlinburg Aquarium, eat at The Melting Pot and Fanny Farkles as well as enjoy a stroll downtown enjoying the warm fall weather and special places she has enjoyed on other trips.
Upon leaving, owner Tom Goodwin visited with Tami and her family to share a small gift of an MLC stuffed bear. Family friend Kim Young commented that "Tami and I had said how we wanted to see a bear. Well, we didn’t see one in the wild, but your gift of this little bear was more precious.......like he was a gift from God." Tami named her bear Micah, which means "Who is Like God?"
Tami and her family have a strong faith in Jesus and decided that this week would be a time to point them to the One that loves them and demonstrates his love through family, His creation and their favorite town of Gatlinburg.
Visits like Tami's make us all realize that life is brief and we need to hold our family close and create memories that last a lifetime and more importantly remind us of what is most important in this life.
In honor of Tami Holloman, Mountain Laurel Chalets will be donating 10% of all profits in the month of December to ALS as a tribute to her courageous battle in this life and her powerful faith which reminds each of us that there is none like God.
