Smoky Mountain Cottage

Rhonda and I LOVE Mountain Laurel Chalets! We have been staying with them for thirty plus years! The chalets are always clean, the staff is very friendly, and always helpful. We have stayed twice now in Smoky Mountain Cottage, formerly Evelyn's Eden, and have fallen in love with it. Even though the home is smaller than most, there's just something special about it. We always feel welcomed when we walk in. The view from the den windows and deck are just incredible, especially in the fall. It feels like our second home. This year we both needed to get unplugged from work, hike the mountains, recharge and spend time together. Thanks again to the staff for all the great suggestions and good conversations. We will be back!

When renting from Mountain Laurel Chalets, we always rest assured that the cabin will be clean and welcoming. The office is nearby to assist with any needs that should arise. The view is amazing and the outdoor fireplace is an added plus. We were blessed to have bear visitors, while we were safely inside! There is no better way to start a day, then rocking chairs on the deck, coffee, and the peaceful Mountain View.

We enjoyed the peacefulness of the screen porch, while listening to the sounds of nature and later the rain. The beds are comfortable and everything was clean. The view from the deck was absolutely beautiful. Some brush and trees near the deck have grown up this past year, blocking some of the view that we once enjoyed. I’m hoping it is maintained and we don’t lose anymore of that panoramic view. However, the view is still great and we were still amazed at the vastness of our beautiful world. We had bear visitors! We enjoyed them from inside the cottage. The added hooks in the bathrooms and the new blinds on the doors were appreciated.

Smoky Mountain Cottage offers privacy, views, and wildlife visitors. The kitchen is well stocked with essential cook wear, including a new requested grill, beds & linens are luxurious and an essential for us is the big wood burning romantic fireplace (in season)It’s an easy driveway with a covered carport in rainy & snowy weather. The huge back deck has a hot tub to soothe stiff hiking muscles, an outdoor fireplace and rocking chairs to admire the spectacular views! Four legged visitors are always welcomed and their antics are viewed from the safety of the screened in side porch.

Very nice property! Everything was spotless and comfortable. The property has been renovated sometime in the recent past and we found it to be well appointed and nicely furnished. The view from both the deck and the interior is very good with generally an unobstructed view of Mt LeConte and the area to the left of Mt LeConte. We did have bears visit on 2 of the 3 evenings we were there which made our stay a bit more interesting! However, we have found this to be pretty much the norm with all of our recent stays in the area so appropriate precautions and care are necessary. One day we had an issue with the cipher lock on the house. However, the office responded to the problem immediately and we were not inconvenienced in the least. We will definitely consider this property on the top of our list for future visits to the area! We can't say enough about Mtn Laurel Chalets. The properties we have stayed in over the years and our communication with management personnel have always been top notch!

First time to Gatlinburg and absolutely loved everything about our stay. We couldn't imagine a better location to stay. The house was perfect. Very clean, spacious, comfortable furniture...just as pictured on the website. The management staff was very helpful and quick to respond to any needs we had. Everything was great .. the chalet is older but saw that it was updated a little … really wish the showers had handles in them and wish you could turn the side porch where we stayed into an enclosed bedroom, office or rect room.

Just FYI, we were very impressed with the quick response regarding someone coming to help us open the damper on the fireplace so we could have a fire. We LOVE Mountain Laurel Chalets. However, even with careful wood placement and all central heat turned off, the fireplace still had some smoke trickle out the front.

We got into town late and the after hours check-in was a breeze. As soon as we got into the house we saw a black bear out of the bedroom window! We were there for three nights and even though we spent a fair amount of time in town, we ended up having three or four bear sightings.
The house was clean and there was enough cookware and supplies to support our meal plan while we were there which made it nice to not have to bring those items with us.
We had a great view and it felt private even with the other vacation rentals around us. I feel like (in a post-COVID world) the price we paid was on par with the experience, location, and amenities we received.

This was a perfect cottage for my family, with the 2 king suites and extra office space it was great for our week long stay. My kids enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. It is high in the Mountains but gives a perfect view!

Sorry you experienced some inconvenience due to maintenance issues at Smoky Mountain Cottage. Repairs are usually done quickly after being discovered, or if a guest reports an issue, we try to address it while the guest is here. We leave that up to the guest, if they want us in the cabin or not. If it's a safety issue, it will be taken care of immediately. Not sure what you mean about the toilets being torture. They are at a standard height for toilets and in good working order. There are currently no grab bars in the showers, but we will look into adding those for our guests who need them. If you could contact the office with any specific repairs you saw, we would truly appreciate the call. It is unfortunate the way you feel about the reviews because they are from actual guests and reflect their experiences. We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future.

We loved how close to town this was. The road up was a little scary at times but we got used to it after a couple runs. The porch view is why we booked this and it did not disappoint. The cottage itself could use some maintenance - (some floor pieces missing, around the hot tub is missing panels, seems to be a water leak under kitchen sink that had an odor, the couch needs to be replaced ). We were overall pleased though for the time we spent there ! The renting agency was easy to work with.

Overall the property and location were amazing.The views from the deck were spectacular. The jacuzzi was a bonus for sure. The only down side was the living room furniture was dingy and very worn with tears and lots of crumbs in the cushions. I would not recommend using the fireplace unless you want tho whole house to smell like smoke for days. Also there are NO hooks/towel bars to hang the small amounts of towels provided after showers/jacuzzi etc

We love this place. Wide open kitchen and living area. The view is fantastic, especially the full length windows looking out from the living area. Wonderful fireplace. This was the first time for us to stay in this particular Chalet and we were not disappointed. The view from the deck and den are just awesome. The house was super clean and we loved the decor. There is plenty of room to maneuver your car in the drive and the carport is a plus. The only thing we noticed is that the house could use some updated kitchen ware, frying pans, plates. As far as Mnt. Laurel Chalet company goes, they are the best. We have been staying with them since the late 80's. We will be returning to this house again. It just feels like home. Thank you!!

The layout and the property the cabin sits on are great. We spent the majority of our time outside. The view from the deck is beyond phenomenal. However, the cabin itself needs a lot of updating and the furniture needs replaced in a very bad way. Overall it was a good stay though.

No towel rack in either bathrooms. Hook for towel by shower in one bathroom, but not the other. Back Bathroom tub accumulates water when using shower and feet are covered.

This property is all one level making it great for the elderly or those that have difficulty climbing stairs; but the living room furniture is very worn and extremely uncomfortable. The deck needs 3 more rocking chairs. This cabin accommodates 4 guests, but only one rocking chair. We have stayed at this cabin several times and we strongly suggest the owner of this property replace this furniture with something more accommodating for their guests . The bathrooms needs hooks for towels,robes and etc. If the lovely bear traffic through the property prevents keeping the screen door on the relaxing screen porch in good repair, maybe it should be replaced with a storm door. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace on the deck! We love this cabin and have made it our vacation home several times. The owner could make it so much better, with these minor changes. You can’t go wrong with Mt Laurel Chalets, they do everything in their power to make every stay great.

These replacements have been made: new chairs replaced in living room and more rockers placed on deck and in the screened in porch. Covid has created furniture repair and purchase of new furniture significantly delayed. We are glad these items have all been addressed and we hope to your satisfaction. Amazing views, beautiful home, comfy beds and the list goes on. Everything worked as it should! I’ve never had such a welcoming experience. We even saw some bears. Worth the money and was in the perfect location! Only thing I recommend is possibly covering a portion of the back deck since the sun gets pretty brutal during the day :)

I stayed at smokey mountain cottage on a girls trip! We love Mount Laurel, and the view is wonderful, loved seeing the bears in our yard!. We loved the hot tub in the evenings, and enjoyed the outside fireplace! This is a great handicap accessible cabin, but really needs grab bars in the showers for the handicap. We loved the cabin, but the owners really need to update the very uncomfortable, broken living room furnitsure. Also need more rocking chairs on the deck, one was broken. We really want to stay at this cabin again, so we are hoping the owners try to make it more comfortable for their guest. Can,t wait to stay with Mount Laurel this fall!

The screen on the porch door needs repaired along with a few other minor things . We loved our stay at Smoky Mountain Cottage. The view is even more beautiful and dramatic than the pictures show. Inside the cottage is exactly as it appears online. Simply lovely. We saw a bear on the hill behind us as soon as we arrived. The location was really easy to find and actually gave us the opportunity to see other Mountain Chalet Cabins along the way. We did have one problem with the living room TV that they tried to repair, but couldn't before we left. It wasn't a big deal since we could stream channels and spent very little time watching TV anyway. I wish we could have used the wbfp inside, but at least got to use the outside one. We would definitely like to stay here again.

Our guests love so much about this chalet, from the large deck (as mentioned) to the carport (very rare on the mountain) to the eye-popping view. Being at the end of a dead end street gives privacy from car traffic, but not bear traffic. They are frequent visitors, so always lock your car doors. We hope to see you again soon.

Enjoyed the drive to our cottage with a beautiful view. The weather was still a little cool, but still enjoyed the hot tub and grilling out. We did lite a fireplace, but did make the cottage pretty smoky. (we opened the damper all the way, but smoky for some reason. May need to check that out?)

Staying at this cottage was so great especially if your staying with another couple because the 2 rooms are almost identical and you still get enough privacy. The views are absolutely amazing and the Jacuzzi was super clean. The whole cottage was very clean and was stocked with utensils, pots, pans, silverware etc. I really enjoyed staying there. The driveway up was a little steep so be careful and we did see some bears but these were both expected.

Watch out for the bears because they are frequent visitors to that area. We had a wonderful stay here. The place was very clean and the view was amazing! We saw a bear within 10 minutes of our arrival! There is another chalet that sleeps 20 people that shares a driveway with this one. And while we were there the family that was in the other chalet were very loud. We were on our honeymoon and were expecting peace and quiet so that was unfortunate. But other than that the place is amazing and the beds were very very comfortable. I didn't want to get out of the bed each morning! Definitely recommend this chalet, we will likely be coming back!

Thanks for the review and congratulation! Smoky Mountain Cottage is a great place to enjoy the beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains while enjoying a beautifully decorated cottage. The house next door, Smoky Mountain Memories, is close enough to hear voices/noise when the guests are outside and we regret that you experienced that instead of the solitude you were seeking. We do offer houses that are more secluded, but not many with that would also offer that View. We hope you will consider spending your Anniversary trips with us and experience some of the other chalets we have to offer.

It was our second time going to this cabin. The view and location is perfect for what we are doing. Only small detail I didn’t like this year was the garbage outside was full when we arrived so we had no place to put our trash. I do get that during the COVID period they wanted less people around the house so it all worked out great. You won’t be disappointed with the cabin or the view.

Spectacular views from the spacious deck, cleanest hot tub I ever used. Property was accurately described, kitchen well stocked, beds very comfortable. If you come to the Smokey Mountains for breath taking views and to see wildlife this is the place for you. We saw 11 bears throughout the week, 1 coyote, and a hummingbird visited us every morning for coffee. House was very clean and beautifully decorated. The only recommendation is grill could be updated.

Cozy, breathtaking, exhilarating. The space was well laid out and inviting every area of the Chalet. THe BBQ in which we used one day brought the forest to us might I add. An exhilarating moment that happened twice. Overall the views, Hot Tub, balcony lured us outside constantly and then the kitchen / living room area welcomed us pleasantly.

The forest visitors have a path through your yard and the surrounding neighbors, so it is best to keep a sharp eye out and always have an unlocked door near by for a quick getaway. Very cute cabin and the hot tub was a nice bonus. The beds were very comfortable. The carport was wonderful since it rained most of our trip there. For someone used to living at sea level, the drive up to the cabin was a little intense for us...however, we always seemed to do so in the dark and rain or fog...but we survived! It was very quite and peaceful. Thank you for sharing with us! Everyone we talked to was very nice and friendly.

Really enjoyed the chalet. The decor was excellent. We cooked out every day on the deck and made s'mores at night via the outdoor fireplace. The view is breathtaking. We were able to watch the Gatlinburg fireworks from out deck. Bears visited us every day. We played games in the living room with the curtains drawn, enjoying the beautiful view. We love the fact that the chalet has a car port. We have a low to the ground sports car and the driveway was no problem. Can't wait to stay in this chalet again.

Wow where do I start, we had the best vacation even with the all the rain from Tropical storm Alberto. First let me say the chalet was amazing and the views from there are out of this world!! The staff at the rental office are so friendly and made us feel so welcomed! Now for the first night there, we unloaded all of our food and bags from our suv and completely forgot to lock the doors. Next morning, went outside and the passenger door was wide open. Luckily the bear did not do any damage to our suv...just muddy paw prints on the leather seats and console. So make sure you lock your car doors, they can open them. We had a big bear visit us on the deck the next night, he lounged around on the deck and we got some great pics of him from inside the chalet. Over the week we had a Momma bear and two cubs come and a very young cub that hung around all night and was still out on the deck the next morning. We have never seen that many bears, my son was thrilled!! We went to the Hatfield and McCoys Dinner Fued Show, front row and it was really good. Then we went to the Dolly Parton’s Stampede another night, the food and show were awesome...they even picked our son to participate in the chicken chase/race. We also went to Cade’s Cove and saw a wild boar, coyote, turkey, deer and more bears... we love going there!! Played a lot of putt putt, shopped the outlets and walked around downtown Gatlinburg. We hated leaving and can’t wait to come back!! Thank you MLC you are the best and we would not stay anywhere else!

The view from the home was amazing. The home itself was a perfect size for a family of 4. The drive from the home to town was about 15 minutes. There were a few small annoyances in the home (toilets didn't flush well, the lids wouldn't stay up) and it would have been nice to have a few more deck chairs. All in all the view was incredible and we saw a family of 3 bears walk right through the property! Great vacation.

My husband and I had a delightful time at the Smoky Mountain Cottage. Its best feature is a spacious deck overlooking the mountains. We watched sunrise and moonrise. We saw rain and rainbows. We listened to birds singing their spring songs while we ate on the deck. This location was a great launching point for the nature photography we came to do. We could walk out the door and shoot the rising sun or the passing clouds before we went in search of the spring wild flowers. Mountain Laurel Chalets consistently provides good service. Their properties are accurately described and kept in good condition. We have used Mountain Laurel about half a dozen times and plan to book through them the next time we stay in Gatlinburg.

It is a great place to rent to get out of the city and relax but yet be so close to the park and downtown. We have two young kids and they loved it; bonus - the local market delivers pizza up there as well. The clubhouses with pools are awesome for kids. We had a great days in the park and then could come back and relax at the pool. Recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay but wants to be close to all the amenities of the park and town.

The screened in porch is a nice feature - allowing you to enjoy the weather without the bugs.
We were there 4 days, and were visited by bears on 3 of them! What a delight!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Smoky Mountain Cottage. The view is amazing, and the house was very comfortable with plenty of room for our family of 3. There are plenty of modern amenities, and it still maintains that mountain cottage feel. The hot tub had some parts floating in it, but it still worked for us, and the management offered to come up and fix it. My only complaints were that the house smells fairly smokey from the fireplace and possibly, cigarette smoking, and the kitchen could use a new can opener. I would warn anyone coming during the winter that the drive is very steep and requires 4WD or chains if there is snow/ice, but the cottage is just minutes from downtown. We would definitely consider staying here again.

We always stay at Smoky Mountain Cottage when we are in Gatlinburg, (at least twice a year). The first time my husband and I came to Gatlinburg it was on Labor Day Weekend and we have been coming back here ever since! It has such a 'homey' environment and the staff are very helpful and friendly. As a matter of fact, we are coming back in October and this is where we'll stay.

I'm a returning veteran with PTSD. This place helped me so much I actually wanted to buy it. I love the land the view and quietness of the home. Not to mention how helpful Thomas was on staff hands down best ever.I didn't want to leave we kept getting night after night and staying. If the owners ever want to sell contact me first please chris. Only issue was without Thomas they limit to one bundle of wood which isn't enough for 5 nights and the hotub needs to be inspected some jets where out. A few issues with maintenenance hole here there scratches on door but for 20 yr old home awesome place again if owners ever want to sell I'll buy. The only reason I put the two four star reviews where because the pictures I took of wear and tear it still was awesome. The other was the wood issue and Thomas was the only sensible one about a fire a night the lady stated one bundle per stay that's it. Dave didn't deal with. To sum it up with the way they took care of me as a returning disabled vet price for what I got I won't book anywhere else and I own two time shares I'd rather sell my time there and stay here with these guy. Also dont ever let Thomas go he's a huge asset.

For our honeymoon, my partner and I decided to rent the Smoky Mountain Cottage. It ended up being an awesome chalet to stay in with the most amazing view. It's a little scary driving up (we're from Florida where everything is flat) but it's at the end of the driveway so we're tucked away in our own little private space. Amazingly, the moment we get there we saw a mom bear and three cubs!!! That made the experience even better. The only annoying thing were the seasonal ladybugs that were taking over the chalet, but the Mountain Laurel Chalets company warned us about it at check-in and after a while we stopped noticing them (they don't bite). Overall, we were very satisfied and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice, private getaway.

It was wonderful!! The staff were so helpful and friendly and we LOVE the Smoky Mountain Cottage and that is why we stay there every year when we come to Gatlinburg. We already have our reservations for next October!

Mountain Laurel Chalets staff

This was our second stay at Smoky Mountain Cottage (formerly known as Evelyn's Eden). It has quickly become our favorite rental. It's in very quiet location - which is very important to us when we visit. Both times we've rented, the cabin next door has been empty, so I'm not too sure how private it'll be once that unit returns to the rental program. Our only issue had nothing to do with Mountain Laurel.... We made the unfortunate mistake of coming down during fall break.... You could barely even get to GSMNP!!! Too many people!!

The stay at Smoky Mountain Cottage was relaxing and enjoyable. We were conveniently located near downtown and the National Park. The view from the cottage was spectacular. The cottage was adequately furnished. The King bed was very comfortable. The Spa was great to relax in after a long day. Parts of the furnishing could be spruced up. the kitchen could be better equipped and the lighting in the kitchen, bedroom and living room could be improved. The management staff was extremely responsive, courteous and helpful.

We were so pleased and so suprised buy all this lovely cottage chalet had to offer for the price. The seclusion and view were amazing and the added benefit of a car port helped with the rain we experienced...unloading groceries was very easy. Also access to this one level home was perfect for my elderly mother. Large rooms (huge bedrooms) and comfortable beds with a view that was majestic. The hot tub in the private level yard was easily accessible from master bedroom and back hallway as well. We loved the decorations and furniture choice. We look forward to coming back in the winter to enjoy the fireplace. The evenings were perfect on the screened in porch for dinner and we even saw a bear--far enough away to feel safe but close enough to see his funny face. This says we are from Gatlinburg but we are from Atlanta...considering making Gatlinburg our second home.

Best view of the smokey mountains short of something on a postcard! Have been going to Evelyn's Eden for our annual motorcycle trip for years. Carport is perfect for the bikes and for making minor repairs. Location is just a short ride downhill to the wonders of Gatlinburg and also just a short ride to the Smokey Mountains National Forrest. Clean and excellent!
